Mother Brooklyn, this website and blog that I started in February 2013, focused on parenthood. Four and a half years later, this is my 216th blog post and I am no longer a new mom. A lot has changed in those years.

Back then, JP was 18 months old. While taking a year of maternity leave I had started a new part time job. I never went back to work full time as one small job turned into another. Then we realized we were parenting a special needs child and our lives turned in a new direction. This change took up most of my time and working outside the home went on the back-burner. We figured out other ways to bring in money and marched on.

Now that JP is stable in elementary school I’m interviewing for full time work. We’ve also discussed leaving NYC after Inez graduates high school in 2019.  Many of the exciting things about living in NYC are no longer accessible as explained in this article. I just don’t have the energy anymore to spend one and a half hours grocery shopping because forty minutes of that time is the less than five mile round trip drive. It shouldn’t be so hard and we want to live, not just survive. JP seems to be at his best in nature and we try to escape the city whenever we can.

In a few days we are going to drive West and explore some areas that have a better quality of life. While we explore where our lives may take us in the next few years and I settle down to work outside the home, it won’t be possible for me to spend time on Mother Brooklyn anymore.

This has been an interesting journey, thank you for riding along with me.
